What does the published scientific research say about Bacillus mucilaginosus?

Source: PubMed and scientific literature databases

Eight PubMed-indexed studies reference Bacillus mucilaginosus — also classified as Paenibacillus mucilaginosus — in plant-input contexts. Peer-reviewed research consistently describes this rhizobacterium as a plant growth-promoting PGPR with documented potassium-solubilizing, phosphate-solubilizing, and IAA-producing capabilities, making it a recurring subject in biofertilizer and biostimulant research.

Genomic characterization of Paenibacillus mucilaginosus G78 confirmed conserved gene clusters for IAA biosynthesis, phosphate solubilization, and biofilm formation. A greenhouse and field trial with a phytase-expressing transgenic B. mucilaginosus strain reported improved phosphorus acquisition and tobacco plant biomass versus uninoculated controls, with the transgenic variant outperforming the wild type in both settings — findings reported in peer-reviewed research, not regulatory endorsements.

Two open-field tomato trials evaluated Micomix, a commercial bioinoculant containing Bacillus mucilaginosus alongside mycorrhizal fungi and other bacteria, and found significant rhizosphere microbiota diversity shifts. Separately, a co-inoculation study with Paenibacillus mucilaginosus and a Cu-resistant rhizobium reported improved heavy-metal phytoremediation efficiency in chelant-treated soils.
