PMID 41241201 investigated density-dependent prophylactic resistance (DDPR) in Schistocerca cancellata, the South American locust, by exposing gregarious-phase nymphs to P. locustae across a range of population densities. As reported in that peer-reviewed study, infection prevalence and intensity were highest at low host densities and declined sharply at intermediate densities. At high locust densities, infections were virtually absent, and the authors identified a likely DDPR threshold above 130 nymphs/m².
